Galileo, who was a believer, said, "The Holy Ghost intended to teach us how to go to heaven, not how the heavens go." The Bible tells us God made the heavens and the earth and then it quickly pans to Adam and Eve. Just a few paragraphs on Creation leaves us having questions and conversations. God moves quickly past information to focusing on relationships.
Some people believe in a young earth while others believe in an old earth. Are the seven days of creation literal days? What about the Gap Theory? These topics should be held as secondary discussions where we decide but don’t divide.
The Bible is mainly a theological book about our relationship with God. It doesn't give us all the specifics of scientific details we might want to know.
We live in a day where people focus more on information and opinions than relationships in so many ways. These platforms are not designed to inform you. They are designed to engage you! Your attention equals revenue! Don’t serve the donkey or the elephant. Serve The Lamb! Social media AI algorithms are dopamine maximizers.
Be the adult in the room. Politicians last a term or two but friends and family last a lifetime. Do not fall into the trap of sacrificing long term relationships, in arguments about short term candidates. If you can't disagree without disrespect, don’t debate.
We can have distinction without having to have division politically as well as theologically. When Jesus returns, it would be nice if he didn't have to break up a church fight with people arguing over these kinds of things.
Even though the Bible is not a science book it is scientifically accurate. Science does not contradict God or God‘s word. Former atheist Dr Hugh Ross astrophysicist turned Christian apologist explained how he found God through a telescope. He said, "The more you investigate the great planet and that which is beyond it, the greatness of God becomes self-evident."
Former atheist Dr. Francis Collins, a world-renowned physician-geneticist and one of the most respected scientists of our time is the former Direction of the National Institute for Health. He came to faith through a microscope. After becoming a Christian, he became a Christian apologist writing The Language of God describing his journey to faith in Christ.
God created us and the world, and things just don't work right unless we obey His divine design.
The seven days of Creation reveals something interesting about how God recreates us in the process of redemption. First we realize, “God said”! The Kingdom of God is voice activated and this is the first step in redemption. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.
Genesis 1:4-5 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. ESV
Day 1 – The first thing God speaks into existence is light. Through our confession we become the light of the world in Christ.
Day 2 – Sky and waters are separated. God begins bringing boundaries and clarity for all that is to come.
Day 3 – Dry land and seas; plants and trees: New life begins to burst forth.
Day 4 – Sun, moon, and stars: God gives direction, rhythms, and guidance for our lives. Our patterns reveal our priorities.
Day 5 – Birds and sea creatures fill the sky and sea. God brings freedom, movement and new life.
Day 6 – Man is created in God’s image. This is all about our identity being established in God’s image.
Day 7 – A day of rest.
Genesis 2:1-4 So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. 2 On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation. 4 This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth. NLT
God creates man just in time to invite Adam to rest where they delight in God’s finished work together.
Recently, I had to repent for working so hard to make Sabbath so perfect. Did you know the original sin was the pursuit of perfectionism. You don’t have to be perfect for God to use you…but you do have to be honest. Anybody who has been here for any length of time knows my weaknesses because I talk about them.
Real people aren’t perfect and perfect people aren’t real. Relax. Rest in the revelation that imperfection is your constant reminder that you need to look to God. We are invited to rest in the finished work of God.
“Come to me… and I will give you rest (not rules).” (Matthew 11:28)
Religion works for what God already gave you.
