Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulders, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ESV
The wonderful counsel of God is illuminating, convicting, transforming, recalibrating. It takes us out of darkness into his marvelous light! (1 Peter 2:9)
Isaiah 9:1-2 Darkness and despair will not go on forever… 2 The people who walk in darkness have seen a great light; For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. NLT
Then we read Vs 6, “to us a child is born”, a prophecy that would be fulfilled 700 years later.
Jesus was born and John writes:
John 1:4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. ESV
The first recorded words of God are, “Let there be light” (Gen. 1:3). God could have spoken anything first, but He began with light.
Light is central to life. Nothing grows without it. Nothing lives without it. Light pushes back darkness without effort. The moment light appears; things change and this is why Scripture ties light to creation, revelation, salvation, and transformation.
Light is sought by all humanity from birth.
A newborn instinctively turns toward light. Adults do the same—just in deeper ways. We look for guidance, hope, direction, and truth. We long for someone to show the way. That search is wired into us because we were made for God’s light. When Jesus steps into history and says, “I am the light of the world,” He’s saying He is the answer to our lifelong search.
John 8:12 Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” ESV
John 10:10 I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. ESV
John 1:4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. ESV
Life in Christ comes as a light shining in the darkness.
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. ESV
Our transformed lives are evidence that His Kingdom has come!
