Genesis 4:16-17 Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. 17 Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. ESV
After the Fall, Cain killed Abel. We see the multiplication of sin. Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and the continuation of his life gradually moves further and further away from honoring God. The next few verses span over 6 generations until we learn of Cain’s descendent, Lamech. Cain’s sin had a generational impact. Unaddressed sin moves from being personal to being generational.
Genesis 4:23 Lamech said… I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for striking me.” ESV
The text indicates this is not just murder. It is pride in the violence of escalating revenge. Violence continues to multiply and by the time you reach Genesis 6 violence has become normalized.
Genesis 6:11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. ESV
The Bible is the most honest book ever written. The transparency reveals our need for a Savior over and over again.
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned. ESV
Nobody is not born naturally good or morally neutral. The sin nature is at work in fallen humanity and that’s why we need Jesus.
The Good News is actually about repentance and redemption. “Easy believism” skips repentance and presents an emotional appeal to accept the good plans of God as a better life plan.
Man’s sin began and ended with a tree. We’re more sinful and flawed than we care to believe. We’re more accepted and loved than we can possibly imagine.
Romans 5:17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. ESV
Just like brokenness can pass through generations so can blessing. That’s what Jesus came to awaken within us all!
Mothers, you are generational architects. The faithfulness you show today is already being released into the lives of people who haven't been born yet. The prayers you pray, the love you give, the faith you model, the cycles you break. Your life matters in the scope of eternity!
Anyone who breaks a generational cycle of addiction, poverty, bitterness, or abuse lives a life that will influence generations and echo God’s grace into eternity.
A mother’s generosity activates something of this gracious, giving disposition generationally!
"You are not just raising children. You really are shaping generations. What you build, keeps building."
So today, we don't just honor our mothers for what they’ve done. We honor you for what is still to come because of all you've done.
GP2RL: Intentionally purpose your own expressions of generational architecture this week in patterns of faithfulness!
